Abstract

453,870. Tube cleaners. SMITH, R. H., Rockview, Sandbank, Argyllshire. March 20, 1935, No. 8684. [Class 99 (ii)] A device, adapted to be reciprocated transversely through banks of boiler &c. tubes for breaking scale off the exterior surface of the tubes, comprises at least three hammerlike elements each of which is constituted by one or more rollers i rotatably mounted in a carrier f on the end of one of a number of spring blades d, d<1>, d<2>. The rollers are provided on their periphery with axial grooves defining ridges or teeth with straight or curved edges, and the spring blades, which are secured to a flat yoke a having a socket b for a removable handle, are splayed outwards in opposite directions so that the rollers are off-set with respect to each other. Radially-extending teeth i<2> may be provided on the end face or faces of the rollers.
