Abstract
453,612. Columns; reinforced concrete. BAUER, B., 51, Mariahilferstrasse, Vienna. April 23, 1935, No. 12261. [Class 20 (iv)] A reinforcement for a reinforced-concrete column comprises one or more profile irons and a lateral reinforcement consisting of a hooping in the form either of a helix of wire, strip or the like or of a plurality of disconnected and superimposed rings, such hooping being arranged either inside an area partly enclosed by the profile iron or irons and in contact with the latter, or around the outside of the profile iron or irons in such a way that a substantial length of each turn of the helical hooping or of each ring is in contact with at least two flanges of the profile iron or of each of the profile irons, so that in each case, part of the radial stress exerted by the concrete is taken by the profile iron or irons. As shown in Fig. 1, an I-section bar 1 is provided with a wire hooping 2 which lies against the flanges of the bar 1 and encloses the open sides in the form of a curve. A joist 7 is fixed directly to the bar 1 and, in order to secure continuity of the hooping 2, a plate 6 of semicircular cross-section is welded at the place where the joist 7 and bar 1 are connected. The hooping 2 may be welded to the bar 1. The joist 7 may, alternatively and as shown in Fig. 3, be connected to the bar 1 by channel irons 8 which also act as binding plates. The hooping may also be in the form of helical reinforcements 15 fitted in the open sides of an I-section bar 1 as shown in Fig. 4, and the outer concrete shell is protected by bent plates 17 welded to the section 1 or by a hooping which lies closely against the outer faces of the flanges of the section. In another construction, two channel bars 19 may be arranged as shown in Fig. 6 with a hooping 2 which lies closely against the flanges of the bars, and the outer layer of concrete may be held in position by a sheet metal plate 9. A helical reinforcement 21 may be stretched around a pair of channel bars 19, as shown in Fig. 8, or a single I-section bar 1, as shown in Fig. 10, the reinforcement being stretched across the open sides of the bars. Two channel bars 1, Fig. 12, may be arranged with an internal hooping 2, which may be spot welded to the bars 1. The two channel bars 1 may be replaced by four angle bars. In another form, helical coils of wire 24 may be placed in each of the open sides of two opposed channels 19 as shown in Fig. 16 and held in place by bands 25. Alternatively, coils may be similarly arranged in the open sides of a single profile iron of I-section.
