453,487. Wagon - tipping apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and ROBSON, R., c /o Fraser & Chalmers Engineering Works, Erith, Kent. March 8, 1935, No. 7337. [Class 78 (iv)] [See also Group XVIII] Wagon-tipping apparatus associated with weighing-apparatus is arranged so that the wagon is supported by the weighing-apparatus only during part of the tipping movement and not in the fully-tipped or initial untipped positions, while the act of tipping imposes no vertical thrust on the weighing-apparatus. The wagon is run on to a platform 2 which is rigidly connected to the axle 4. The latter carries segmental rope pulleys 3 at its ends connected to the tipping drums 6 by ropes which are led off horizontally to pass over pulleys 7 so that by winding up these ropes the platform and truck are rotated about the axle 4 to tip the contents into the hopper 9 without applying any load to the weighing- apparatus. Mechanism as described in Specification 438,157 engages the chains 11 and holds the wagon on the platform during this process. The weighing-apparatus comprises two beams 12, resting on knife-edges 14 and engaged for weighing with members 15 at the ends of the axle 4. Normally, flattened discs 17 on the axle engage fixed surfaces 19 and prevent engagement between the members 15 and the beams 12, but the initial tipping brings the flattened portions 18 opposite to the surfaces 19 and lowers the members 15 on to the beams 12. The latter then operate an indicator through linkage 13. The continued act of tipping re-engages the members 18, 19 so that the weighing-apparatus is not functioning during the actual transfer of the load. On the return journey the weighing- apparatus will be momentarily re-engaged to register the tare of the empty truck and platform. The members 15 are carried by levers pivoted to the hopper. In the modified form shown in Fig. 3, the axle 4 is connected to driving ropes 26 so that it rolls along its bed in the process of tipping. At one point it rolls over the member 24 and depresses it to actuate the weighing-apparatus.
