Abstract

453,405. Measures of length. NIEUWKAMP, J., Groote Postweg, Probolinggo, Java, Dutch East Indies. March 3, 1936, No. 6481. [Class 106 (ii)] [See also Group XX] One or more rulers 2 movable by parallel displacements over a drawing board 1 are coupled to slides 3 which co-operate with corresponding guides 4 so that the position of a ruler may be accurately set by inserting one of a row of evenly spaced pins 8 on the slide into one of a series of holes 6 in the guide spaced at slightly different equal intervals to give a vernier adjustment. A finer adjustment of the ruler 2 may be effected by moving the ruler relatively to the slide 3 (or the guide 4 relatively to the board 1) by means of a micrometer screw 17 rotated by a lever 18 with a spring pawl 20 engaging a notched segment. For increased accuracy the slide 3 may be provided with two or more staggered rows of pins and the guide 4 with coacting rows of holes. The pins may have T-shaped grooves engaging fixed pins so that they may be retained in the depressed position by a slight twist.
