[Class 9 (ii)] [See also Group XXIV] The firing mechanism of a land mine or the like is associated with a sheathed cable device adapted to be extended under the ground to be protected by the mine and when deformed by the passage of a tank or other heavy body thereon to cause a push or pull to be imparted to the firing mechanism which is operated thereby directly or by a trip device. In the form shown in the Figure, the pull of a cable 2 when its sheath 1 is deformed cocks a spring 15 and snaps a pin 12, whereupon the spring throws a firing-pin 9 on a percussion cap 8. Several firing mechanisms and sheathed cables may be connected together in various ways. The sheath of the cable may be made of a flexible or coiled tube or of a number of beads of uniform or different sizes and shapes in various ways with flat, concave, convex, or loosely socketed contacting faces.
