Abstract

453,120. Electric signalling systems. MARCHMENT, W. T., 4, Grove Park Lodge, Chiswick, London, YOUNG, T. N., Laleham, East Street, Epsom, Surrey, and NOBBS, W. J., 52, Chandos Road, Cricklewood, London. Feb. 1, 1935, No. 3305. [Class 40 (i)] In a system for transmitting quantitative indications to a distance optical devices are set automatically in accordance with the indications to be transmitted, and electrical impulses, derived from these devices, bring about the required indications. As shown optical devices 11 comprise light sources fluctuating at a rate dependent on the respective indications. The scanning device 12 associates the light sources in turn with the photo-electric cell 13 and impulses derived from the sources are transmitted over the line to energize the light source 14 at the receiver. The device 15, which is running synchronously with the device 12 feeds the received signals on to photo-electric cells 16 which receive light impulses of the same frequencies as those of the sources 11. Indicating, recording or integrating devices 17 are associated with each of the cells 16 and are actuated in accordance with the fluctuations received. In other embodiments, the light sources 11 are replaced by shutters which cover light emitting or reflecting surfaces to a greater or less extent in accordance with the readings to be transmitted, the light and dark areas being reproduced on a suitable screen at the receiving station. Signals indicating the " on " or " off " condition of switches or the like may also be transmitted and control may be effected by means of distributers directly coupled to the scanning devices. Specification 215,792, [Class 40 (i)], is referred to.
