Abstract
453,063. Lathes. POLLAK, J. E., 20, Holborn, London.-(Pittler Werkzeug-Maschinenfabrik Akt.-Ges.; Wahren, Leipsic, Germany) March 29, 1935, No. 9851. [Class 83 (iii)] Chucks.-An automatic work-turret lathe has a magazine feed for blanks and a crossslide, reciprocated during the idle period between successive tooling operations between the magazine and one spindle position to bring individual blanks into alignment with the chuck in said spindle position, having means associated therewith for longitudinal displacement of an aligned blank into the chuck prior to commencement of the next tooling operation. An unloading, loading and tooling operation is performed at the station F, Fig. 2, in addition to the normal operations at the remaining stations; the former two operations are effected by the cross-slide 4 reciprocated by cam and lever mechanism 27, 28 and the associated longitudinal slide 6, mounted on the cross-slide 4 and reciprocated by cam and lever and rod and lever mechanism 14, 15, 16, 17, Figs. 1, 2 and 5. The blanks 11 are fed down the shoot 1 which is kept closed by an associated part 26 of the cross-slide until the latter is in position for the commencement of a feeding operation, the blank falls into a recess 9, Fig. 5, in the auxiliary slide 6 and is supported also by a cradle lever 7 spring-urged against a stop 7a to maintain it in correct supporting alignment with the recess 9. The cross-slide is moved inwards to bring the blank into line with the chuck 20 and then the auxiliary slide 6 is moved longitudinally to feed the blank into position against an ejector 22 which is thereby compressed and remains so when the chuck is closed on the work. The auxiliary slide is then moved axially away from the chuck and the cross-slide withdrawn, the cradle-lever rocking downwardly under the blank to free it therefrom. The ejectors 22 are interchangeable in the jaws 22a of the known spindle heads 21.
