Abstract

451,769. Pianofortes. LAWRENCE, S. D., and HAMMOND, P. S., White Hart Works, Douglas Road, Wood Green, London. Feb. 8, 1935, No. 4149. [Class 88 (ii)] In an upright pianoforte the soundboard and wrestplank are directly supported by the iron frame, the back-to-front dimension of the instrument being reduced by omission of the usual wooden backing. The iron frame is directly attached to the outer casing of the instrument. The wrestplank 12 is held between two flanges 11, 17 on the rear of the iron frame which frame has flanges and lugs 13, 14, 15 for its attachment by screws to the casing. Marginal wood fillets 21, 22 are secured on the soundboard and a felt strip is interposed between the front fillets and the iron frame, the soundboard being secured to the latter by bolts. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 2117 /89, 9373 /93, [both in Class 88], 311,627, [Class 88 (ii)], 355,816, 360,401, 406,242, and 421,962.
