Abstract

Alloys consisting of iron with 15-28 per cent of cobalt, 25-30 per cent of nickel, and 5-8 per cent of chromium or manganese are used in the production of glass-to-metal seals for electric lamps, discharge tubes, &c. Alloys consisting of (a) 25 per cent of cobalt, 30 per cent of nickel, 40 per cent of iron, and 5 per cent of chromium; (b) 25 per cent of cobalt, 30 per cent of nickel, 37 per cent of iron, and 8 per cent of chromium; (c) 25 per cent of cobalt, 30 per cent of nickel, 38 per cent of iron, and 7 per cent of manganese, (d) 15 per cent of cobalt, 30 per cent of nickel 50 per cent of iron, and 5 per cent of chromium, are described for use in connection with glasses of the following compositions: (a) 67 per cent of silica, 1 per cent of boric oxide, 15 per cent of sodium oxide, 7 per cent of calcium oxide, 6 per cent of zinc oxide, and 4 per cent of aluminium oxide; (b) and (c) 66 per cent of silica, 7,5 per cent of sodium oxide, 6,3 per cent of potassium oxide, and 20,2 per cent of lead oxide, (d) 22,5 per cent of silica, 41,35 per cent of boric oxide, 21,2 per cent of aluminium oxide, 9,4 per cent of calcium oxide, 4,8 per cent of sodium oxide 0,7 per cent of potassium oxide, and 0,05 per cent of iron oxide. Specification 405,650 is referred to.
