Abstract

449,386. Automatic volume control. TELEFUNKEN GES. FUR DRAHTLOSE TELEGRAPHIE, 12, Hallesches Ufer, Berlin. Nov. 5, 1935, No. 30616. Convention date, Nov. 5, 1934. [Class 40 (iv)] In automatic volume control systems for gramophone recording the variable attenuation device which is controlled by a voltage obtained by rectifying the signals is in the form of a balanced bridge. This enables the voltage to be employed in an unsmoothed condition without introducing noise. The elimination of the smoothing circuits makes the device more quick acting. As shown, the device is connected in shunt to the transmission line and is balanced with the aid of a slider 9. In a modification, the attenuator is in series in one of the transmission lines. Initial bias is provided by battery 14. The control voltage is obtained by rectifying at 3 signals derived from the input or output side of the attenuator and an amplifier may be included in the control path before or after the rectifier. The rectifiers 6, 7 may be shunted by adjustable resistances and may be thermionic valves.
