Abstract

449,063. Printing- machines - SOC. ANON. SESA MANUFACTURES DE SERRURES ET MOULAGES COMPRESSES, Rue Fulrade, Sarreguemines, Moselle, France. Sept. 23, 1935, No. 26373. Convention date, Sept. 22, 1934. [Class 100 (i)] Perforating-apparatus.-In a perforating- device for printing-machines having an interchangeable combination wheel actuated by the movements of the machine for bringing the perforating-cutters into the operative position as required, the wheel-is adapted to act both as a ratchet-wheel by which rotation is imparted thereto and as a control wheel for the operating-slides for the cutters. The device comprises a casing 1 with roughened sides, a removable spindle 2 on which is mounted the combination wheel 3, a pawl 4 pivotally mounted on the spindle 2 and held in engagement with a cam 5 by springs 6 situated in the sides of the casing, the pawl having a spring- pressed plunger 4a engaging the teeth of the wheel 3, and a spring-pressed lever 7 engaging the teeth of the wheel 3 to be rocked thereby. The lever 7 is stirrup-shaped and is engaged by a lever 9 adapted to engage the end of the operating-slide 16<1>, or a member connected thereto, which enters an opening in the casing 1. The cam 5 projects from the casing 1 and is moved, for example, by the impression cylinder in a cylinder machine, or by the impression plate in a platen machine, to rotate the wheel 3 one tooth for each such movement. Where the slide 16<1> is not to be moved at each advance of the wheel 3, some of the teeth of the wheel are provided, as shown, with central recesses 10 into which the lever 7 enters, and notches 10 with which the lever 7 engages may be provided in the recesses to prevent backward movement of the wheel. The cutters are put into motion section by section in the case of a cylinder machine. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 5, consecutive cutters 14, 14<1> of a single range are in inoperative position and separated by a block 15 having a curved top, and two bottom thrust faces resting on the ends of operating-slides 16, 16<1>. When the slide 16<1> is displaced by the lever 9, the cutter 14<1> and block 15 are raised. In this position the pressure roller passes thereover, the block 15 being depressed by the roller to force the slide 161 back to allow the cutter 141 to drop and to force the slide 16 to the left to raise the cutter 14 into operative position. The arrangement is such that the cutters are in their inoperative position when passing under the inking-rollers. The block 15 may be slotted to allow the ends of the cutters to be brought nearer to one another. Where other cutters are arranged transversely to the above-mentioned cutters, each slide operating the cutters arranged in one direction is provided with a conical thickening adapted to engage two cross slides, one on each side thereof, for cutters arranged in the other direction. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a cam arrangement in a platen machine adapted to be operated by the machine to counteract the pressure of the springs which normally return the cutter slides to their inoperative position whereby less pressure is required to be exerted by the cam 5 on the cutter slides. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
