Abstract
448,833. Supply systems for resistance welding. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Jan. 7, 1936, No. 570. Convention date, Jan. 7, 1935. [Class 38 (iv)] [See also Group XL] Switching systems. An arrangement for electric spot welding comprises a pair of gas- or vapour discharge tubes 1, 2. opposedly connected in parallel, the ignition of the tube 2 being effected in dependence on the energization period of the tube 1 by means of a condenser 6 shunted by resistance 7 and located in the anode-current circuit of both tubes. The condenser is charged by a current impulse passing through tube 1 and when its voltage rises above that of the gridbias source 9 to which it is opposed the tube 2 is energized. The charge leaks away across resistance 7 to prepare for the next cycle. The time-controller 11 may be a rotating contact or an electric timing circuit and phase-displacer. The condenser 6 is charged through the dry-plate rectifier 8, in parallel with the primary of the welding transformer 5.
