Abstract

448,660. Hollow rollers. KELTIE, G. R., 91, Social Street, Woonsocket, Rhode Island, U.S.A. June 28, 1935, No. 18623. [Class 34 (i)] [See also Groups V and VIII] A method of applying a rubber covering to suction roll shells 14 provided with radial openings 20 and with peripheral recesses or grooves 16 comprises inserting key forming pieces 19 of rubber in the recesses or grooves, applying a covering 12 of unvulcanized rubber to the outer surfaces of the shell and key forming pieces, winding a strip of vulcanizing tape 26 over the covering, driving pins 30 outwardly through the radial openings of the shell to form aligned openings in the key forming pieces, rubber covering and tape, vulcanizing the rubber and then removing the pins. As shown the grooves 16 may be dovetailed. The rubber covering may comprise an inner layer of harder rubber and an outer layer of softer rubber. Specification 412,130, [Group V], is referred to.
