[Class 142 (iv)] [See also Group II] In shaker screens, the thickness of the wires forming the mesh is graded at or near the parts which are fixed to the frame so as to diminish from the points of attachment towards the middle of the screen. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, the wires 10 along the attached edges of the screen are of the greatest diameter and the succeeding wires 11 .. 15 are of diminishing diameter, the intervening part of the screen being of uniform thickness. In addition, the thickness of the transverse wires may be varied. Intermediate reinforced areas of the screen may also be provided, as shown in Fig. 3, in conjunction with transverse supporting bars 20, 21. In the case of stationary screens which are vibrated by the application of an exciting force at some intermediate point of the screen, the mesh work is thickened at the point of application of the force.
