448,607. Type -printing telegraphy. AUTOPHON AKT.-GES., 3, Ziegelmattstrasse, Solothurn, Switzerland. Nov. 27, 1935, No. 32943. Convention date, Dec. 5, 1934. [Class 40 (iii)] The distributer for the current impulses of a start-stop system comprises a chain of relays controlled by a cadence tapper. The combined transmitting and receiving instrument comprises character keys T1, T2, T3 .... , Fig. 2, controlling type levers TH through tie rods ZH and each key may be operated by incoming signals through an associated feeler member FG controlled by selector members WA ... WE actuated by selecting magnets MA ... ME, Figs. 1 and 4. When by the appropriate pivotal movement of a selected combination of the selector members, the feeler FG drops into engagement with the associated key bar its rear end FA rises to a position in which it can be attracted by the common printing magnet DM, Fig. 3, to depress the associated key bar and print the character. The feeler member is subsequently restored to its normal position by a common release magnet HM. Transmission of the character signals is effected by the closing of a universal contact SU, Fig. 1, and a selected number of the contacts SA ... SE by the depression of the key T. The timing of the transmitted and received impulses is controlled by a cadence tapper N working as a self-interrupting relay and a chain of relays A ....D, each having two windings AI, AII, &c. which, when transmitting, associate the relay S with the contacts SA . . . SE in succession to transmit impulses over the line L through contact s. When receiving, the relays A ... D, associate the selecting magnets MA ... ME with the contact re2 of the receiving relay RE in succession to position the selector bars. The printing and release magnets DM, HM are subsequently energized.
