Feb. 14, 1935, Nos. 4808 and 16940. [Class 8 (ii)] [See also Group I] A filter, intended especially for air but stated to be applicable for fluids generally, comprises one or more filtering units each having a shallow box-like frame within which filter cloth is arranged in zigzag form, supported at the folds by rods or plates substantially rigid in the line of flow of the fluid. As shown in Fig. 6, the cloth 6 is supported at the folds in the frame 8 by curved bars 5, and as shown in Fig. 7, it is supported by plates 25 with beaded edges 26. Fig. 8 shows a form of wire support for the cloth. Fig. 1 shows an air filter with several units 4 through which the air is drawn from an inlet 16 to an outlet 20 by a fan 15. The units are held in position on guide supports 1 of Z cross-section, each unit resting against one of the guides at the top and against the adjacent guide at the bottom. The outer frames of the units may be coated with pitch and have rubber packing where they contact with the guides. Wedges or cams are used to press the frames against the guides. The air on entering the casing is directed by baffles 17 against a layer 18 of water, oil, a disinfectant solution, or other agent to which dust will adhere.
