Abstract
447,366. Pencil sharpeners. COHN, I. E., 27, West 20th Street, and TAIT, W. E., 5, West 8th Street, both in New York, U.S.A. Oct. 30, 1935, No. 29988. [Class 146 (iii)] A pencil sharpene: comprises opposed vertical plates 2, 3 a sleeve 13 carried by the plate 3, a stud shaft 9 pro vided with a handle 19 and rotatably carried by the plate 2, a bracket 10 con sisting of a piece of sheet metal having sections at its ends bent to form opposed arms 11, 12, the arm 11 being mounted on the shaft 9 and the arm 12 on the sleeve 13, a pencil-guiding abutment 16 carried by the bracket 10 intermediate its arms, a spiral toothed cutter 17 rotatably mounted in the arms 11, 12 opposite the abutment 16, and an annular rack 7 carried by the plate 2 and having its teeth directly in mesh with the spirals of the cutter 17. When the handle 19 is rotated to rotate the frame 10, the cutter 17 rotates on its own axis by the engagement of the internal teeth on the rack 7 with the spirals of the cutter. The vertical plates are connected by side plates below which a metal drawer is provided, and a rounded top cover of celluloid or the like rests on a top spacer bar and has its ends disposed in opposed lips provided at the upper ends of the side plates. The sleeve 13 receives and guides a pencil, and the abutment 16 supports the pencil against the cutter 17.
