Abstract
446,686. Feeding molten material. BEAVER, C. J., Bell Place, Stamford Road, and FAIRFIELD, T. J., Enville Mount, Enville Road, both in Bowdon, Cheshire, and GLOVER & CO., Ltd., W. T., Trafford Park, Manchester. March 8, 1934, No. 32145. [Class 83 (i)] [See also Group XXVIII] Electricity, heating by.-Means for feeding molten material from a supply vessel to a receptacle comprises pipe having a movable joint at the supply end and a valve close to the delivery end with electric heaters for the pipe, joint and valve. The pipe 29 is surrounded by an electric heating element 33, Fig. 3, insulation 35 and between these, a metal stiffening tube 34. At its lower or delivery end the pipe is provided with a valve 5, Fig. 2, comprising an apertured plate 10 which may be moved out of alignment with the apertures in stationary adjacent plates 11, 12 to close the valve, this being effected by a hand-wheel 15. Electric heaters 23, 25 30, are arranged about the valve and the outlet 21 which may direct molten lead into an extrusion press 4. The upper end of the pipe is connected to a supply vessel 60 by a ball joint, Fig. 4, comprising the ball-end 39, which together with the pipe may be of stainless steel, a socket piece 40 and a retaining plate 43 ; electric heating means 46, 52 are provided about the joint. The heating elements may have control means to regulate the temperature of the material.
