446,370. Sound-record blanks. KUBO, H., 301, Shirokane Sanko-cho, Shiba-ku, Tokio. May 24, 1935, No. 15197. [Class 40 (ii)] A disc record blank is made of metal such as aluminium, having the recording surface oxidized electrolytically, the oxide being impregnated with a dye. In the example shown, an oxide layer 2 on an aluminium plate 1 is impregnated with a dye, such as a sulphon acid black, which permeates among the oxide particles 3 and reacts chemically therewith to form a lake. The hard lake coating is pressed down into the aluminium base when a sound groove 4 is formed in it. Wearing-out of the groove becomes evident when the aluminimn is visible at the bottom of the groove.
