Abstract

445,912. Television. BROWNE, C. O., 29, Monk's Drive, West Acton, London. Oct. 18, 1934, No. 18347/35. Divided application. [Class 40 (iii)] The synchronizing signals in an interlaced scanning system, in which a non-integral number of lines are scanned in each partial scan, are produced by the line-scanning mechanism 8. At the end of each partial scan, apertures 11, 12 are exposed by openings 17, 16 in a rotating shutter 13 and their image is swept over a photo-electric cell by the mirror drum. At the end of the first partial scan the aperture 11 is exposed first by the leading-edge 22 of the opening 17, and at the end of the second partial scan the aperture 12 is exposed first by the leading-edge 20. According to a modification, shown dotted, a disc 24 is driven at a speed, and in a direction, which compensates the movement of the drum due to the rotation of the carcase of the exciting motor-generator 6 by a motor 9. The disc carries a lamp 25, from which light is reflected by a mirror 23 on the drum 8 to a reflecting prism 26 and thence to a photo-electric cell 30. A mask with the two synchronizing apertures is placed on the vertical face of the prism. Specification 438,905, [Group XX], is referred to.
