Abstract

445,733. Feeding webs. MUMFORD, J. A., 51, Hatfield Street, Harpurhey, Manchester. Jan. 18, 1935, No. 1668. [Class 100 (i)] Collapsable rollers; straightening weft.-A device for straightening the weft of a travelling web consists of a winch over which the web passes and comprising a number of staves x pivoted at their inner ends to a fitting on the central shaft of the winch and connected at the outer ends to means for expanding or contracting the staves so as to vary the diameter of the winch from the centre to either end independently. As shown, the adjustment of the staves at each end of the winch is effected by a travelling screw-operated nut N connected by links L to a member S slidably on the central shaft and having inclined slotted arms engaging pins P on the ends of the staves. In a modification, the members S are of conical form having the slots in their curved surfaces, and in another modification, the members S have pins engaging slotted brackets on the staves. The nuts N may be actuated by bevel or wormgearing from a distant point.
