Abstract

445,535. Cash registers. NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO., Dayton, Ohio, U.S.A. -(Assignees of Nelson, G.; 3731, Maple Grove Avenue, Dayton, Ohio, U.S.A.) Sept. 12, 1934, No. 26180. Convention date, March 10. [Class 106 (i)] Perforating items and totals.-In a cash register or similar accounting-machine capable of operating through a variable number of cycles according to the kind of machine operation and having means for perforating amounts or totals on record cards fed automatically and successively to said means, the card feed is disabled during certain cycles. The invention is described as applied to a cash register of the kind forming the subject-matter of Specification 8119/15, [Class 106 (i)], and provided with means to feed a card, Fig. 10, from a stack 159, Fig. 4, perforate it in accordance with the item or total and eject it into a reservoir 287, Fig. 6. The invention consists in the provision of means to disable the card feed during the first cycle of a total-taking operation. At the beginning of an adding operation, a card is fed from the bottom the stack by the right-hand excursion of a of slide 203 driven from cams 218, 219 on a shaft 151 through a lever 215, a link 209 and arms 208, 206 on a shaft 207. The connection between the link 209 and lever 215 comprises a T-shaped slot 211 formed in the link and embracing a stud 212 on the lever. In adding operations, the stud is situated as shown in the upper arm of the slot and the cams are consequently operable to feed a card at each cycle. However, upon the adjustment of the total-taking control lever out of adding position, the usual rock-shaft that is rocked at this time acts through a link 220 to raise the link 209 to a position in which the horizontal arm of the slot is in alignment with the stud. The cams are thus rendered ineffective to shift the feed slide 203 during the first cycle. Later in the cycle, when the rock-shaft receives its second movement, the link is raised to full extent to engage the. lower arm of the slot with the stud and thus render the card feed effective during the second cycle. The card passed from the stack is fed by pairs of rollers 232 ... 237 to perforating position between plates 132, 133 where it is arrested by bars 273 controlled by a cam 274 on shaft 151. The plates are now raised, together with the upper feed rollers, to press the card against punches 123, those punches that are restrained by projections 129 on racks 126 being effective to perforate the card. Upon the return of the plates, the arrested bars are withdrawn and the card is fed by the feed rollers to a pair of ejector rollers 238, 239 and thence to the reservoir. The racks 126 are set by the amount and transaction differentials, the total control lever and dating slides 178.
