[Class 83 (iv)] [See also Groups XXVIII and XXX] A machine for straightening &c. parts of automobiles &c. comprises a portable handoperated hydraulic pump P connected by a flexible pipe 16 to a portable jack 13. A transportable stand carries a single or double acting pump P operated by a hand lever 22. Liquid under pressure is carried by pipe 16 to the jack 13. The jack may be secured by a bolt 35 to standards 26 and used for straightening a connecting rod supported on the table 27. The ram may be dismounted by releasing the bolt 35 and used with tools fitted to the ram and stored in trays T. In straightening a beam 170, Fig. 11, a chain 180 is secured to a strong back 182 and the jack 13 is used to apply tension to the chain. The jack 13 may be connected to members 216, 215, Fig. 22, for applying pressure in a bending operation. The plunger of the jack may be calibrated. A coupling, Fig. 8, allows of the disconnection of the flexible pipe without escape of liquid and connection without inclusion of air. Members 145, 154 swaged upon the ends of the pipe are engaged on a conical facing 153 by a nut 149. Spring-urged valves 146, 137 are forced open when the coupling is engaged. The pump is provided with a container 17 placed under pressure by a plunger 57 operated by a lever 22 and is fitted with a spring and check valve and a release valve. The jack comprises a cylinder 100 with graduated plunger 115 and is connected to the pump by a flange 108 and to the bending tools by flanges 112, 116. U.S.A. Specification 1,982,008 is referred to.
