Abstract

443,785. Frying-ranges &c. withdrawing objectionable fames ; covers. ROSS, C. E., and PERKS, T. E., (trading as ROSS & PERKS), 166, Piccadilly, London. Sept. 4, 1934, Nos. 25474/34, 32284/34, 5482/35, and 8107/35. [Class 126] In a stove, e.g. for cooking fish and chipped potatoes, having a food container 12 surrounded by inner and outer casings 9, 7, with an inner heating chamber 15 between the food container and inner casing, and an outer chamber 16 between the two casings 7, 9, through which cooking fumes are withrawn from the top of the container downwardly to a suction chamber 1, the top edge of the outer casing 7 is located slightly above the top edge of the food container and is provided with a flange 14 extending inwardly somewhat over the top of the food container which is open to the atmosphere at the top at least adjacent to this flange, so that atmospheric air flows downwardly and radially outwardly over the whole top edge of the container 12 into the chamber 16. The inner casing rests on a support 8, which is provided with apertures for the flow of air from the chamber 16. The hot gases from a gas, coke or oil heater in the chamber 15 may be withdrawn through the apertures 17 to the suction box 1 with the fumes of cooking, or they may pass out through a separate flue. The suction is controlled by an apertured conical member 24 which may be raised or lowered by an arm 23 which co-operates with a ramp. To equalize the suction the inner casing may be arranged eccentrically so that the chamber 16 is more restricted on the side above the exhaust outlet from the box 1. A passage 19 from the inner chamber through the outer chamber may be provided. The parts of the stove fit one another so that they are automatically centred. when placed in position. The cover comprises a hopper 26<1> and a cone 28<1> carried respectively by arms 30, 31 pivoted at 32, 33. The arm 31 has a cam 34 which co-operates with an extension 35 on the arm 30 so that when the arm 31 is horizontal the arm 30 is horizontal also. In this position, air can be drawn between the hopper 26<1> and the flange 14. If the arm 31 and cone 28<1> are raised, the cam 34 allows the arm 30 to fall until the hopper 26<1> rests on the flange 14. If the arm 30 and hopper 26<1> are raised, the cone 28<1> and arm 30 are raised with them. A counterweight 36 facilitates this movement. In another form of cover, the hopper rests on the cone, which is supported by a counterweight. In this case, when it is desired partly to uncover the food container, the cone is lowered so that the hopper rests on the flange.
