Abstract

Sept. 5, 1934, Nos. 25541 /34 and 24767 /35. [Classes 106 (i) and 106 (iv)] Apparatus for indicating both the duration of the time of operation of a machine and also the number of revolutions or oscillations of a part of the machine comprises a chronometric mechanism, a counting mechanism and a driving mechanism comprising a pendulum moved by gravity relative to a member carried by a moving part of the machine. In one form, Figs. 1 and 3, an oscillating part 5 of a machine carries a pendulum 1 which drives a ratchet wheel 8 by means of a pawl 10. The wheel 8, Fig. 3; winds up the spring 25 of a known chronometric mechanism 27, 28. The wheel 8 when moved also releases a stop in the chronometric mechanism which allows the spring 25 to drive a counter 29 at a rate controlled by an escapement or equivalent device. The counter 29 thus indicates the duration of the time of operation of the machine. Pawls 13, 131 on the pendulum 1 drive a ratchet wheel 12 connected to a counter which shows the total number of oscillations. In a modification, Fig. 2, the pendulum 1 and a pinion 19 are secured to a shaft 6 on which is pivoted a cradle 16 carrying pinions 18, 18<1>. Shafts 20, 21 having pinions 22, 23 are journalled in the machine part 5. When this part rotates or oscillates about the shaft 6, the pinions 18, 20 or 181, 23 are brought into contact and then the shafts 20, 21 are driven by the action of the other pinions rotating as planet pinions about the sun pinion 19 held stationary by the pendulum 1. The shafts 20, 21 are connected to the chronometric mechanism and to the counter respectively. These shafts are driven in the same direction for either direction of rotation of the part 5.
