441,939. Coated fabrics; compound sheet materials. STEVENS, A. H., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.- (Congoleum-Nairn, Inc. ; Kearny, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Aug. 8, 1934, No. 22962. Drawing to Specification. [Class 140] A covering of the linoleum or felt base type consisting of a layer of coating or moulding composition such as paint, lacquer, enamel, or linoleum composition applied to a fabric, felt, &c. backing is provided on the reverse side with a layer of cementitious material adapted to unite the covering to the surface to which it is applied, e.g. a floor, wall, ceiling, table, cabinet, &c. A permanently adhesive cement such as a rubber-rosin composition may be used, being protected during storage &c. by a removable sheet of glazed cambric, oiled paper, or cellulose hydrate ; or a normally non-tacky composition containing a cellulose ester, e.g. nitrocellulose, a resin, e.g. rosin, and a plasticizer, e.g. dibutyl phthalate, or one containing clay, lignin, and a plasticizer such as glycerine may be applied, and activated when required by a solvent such as alcohol or water. The lignin is obtained by evaporating waste sulphite liquors from the wood pulp industry. The backing may be burlap, asphalt-saturated felt, or a combination of burlap and felt. The cementitious coating may be applied instead of or as well as the usual coating applied on the back of floor &c. coverings.
