Abstract

441,504. Moulding- machines. FOUNDRY EQUIPMENT, Ltd., 15, Victoria Street, Westminster.-(Baillot, A. J. ; Rue Alphonse Helbronner, Saint Ouen, Seine, France) Aug. 15, 1934, No. 23592. [Class 83 (i)] A moulding-machine has a number of fluidpressure cylinders, automatically operated in timed relation, to rotate a mould-carrying table intermittently and to press the moulds thereon. The machine shown in Fig. 1 is operated by hydraulic plungers 28, 42 and 46 controlled by inlet and exhaust valves 78 ... 83 which are operated in the desired sequence by cams driven through variable - speed gear by an electric motor. The plunger 28 is first advanced and a pulley 30 thereon moves a chain 32, which is anchored at 33, passes round pulleys 30, 34 and 35 and is connected to a weight 38, Fig. 3. This is therefore raised and the rotation of the pulley 34 is imparted by a oneway clutch 24 to the table 14 carrying a number of pattern plates 22 and stops 128, capable of vertical movement therein. As a plate 22 approaches the pressing position one of the stops 128 engages the plunger 138, Fig. 5, of a cylinder 132 connected to a reservoir containing oil. Owing to the conical end 140 of the plunger engaging a corresponding seat, the table is gradually brought to rest between a clamping head 54 and the pressing plunger 42. The plunger 46 is next advanced, against a constant counter pressure admitted by a pipe 126, to operate the clamping head as described in Specification 419,654. The plunger 42 then lifts the pattern plate to compress the sand and falls again, stripping the pattern. The clamping head then rises and one cycle is complete. While the plunger 28 is being returned by the weight 38 another weight 152, resting thereon, also falls and, by reason of a chain, raises the end 150 of a lever thereby lifting the stop 128, in engagement with the plunger 138, clear thereof so that the table can be again rotated. In a modification stripping occurs at a different position from compressing but the stripping plunger may be connected in parallel with the compressing plunger. Specification 353,545 also is referred to.
