Abstract

A highly glazed finish is imparted to the surface of a material that can be stoved, e.g. asbestos, slate or metal, by applying three successive coatings, each coating being stoved. The first coating consists of varnish mixed with a solution of resin in amyl acetate; the second of a mixture of a filler with a colouring material; and the third of a stoving enamel mixed with a solution of resin in amyl acetate. After the application of each coating, the material is stoved at a temperature increasing from 90 to 230 DEG F. A final coating of a clear stoving lacquer may then be applied and stoved, and the surface buffed and polished.
