Abstract

441,012. Circular looms. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd., 22, Hanover Square, London, HALE, F. C., and HOWARTH, W., c/o British Celanese, Ltd., Spondon, near Derby. July 10, 1934, No. 20197. [Classes 142 (i) and 142 (ii)] Shedding-mechanism for circular looms comprises a plurality of banks of flat thread controlling healds mounted on their edges within a support disposed within the warp circle, means for urging all the healds into a shedding movement in a radial direction and means for restraining healds in selected banks against such shedding movement. The heald support comprises concentric rings 18 secured to the dents of a pair of concentric reed-like members 11, 12 set in soft fusible metal, such as lead, and supported by a spider 14 mounted on the main shaft of the loom. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the healds 17 are urged inwardly by a shedding wheel. 19 engaging the warps, and selected hanks of healds are held against such movement by stops 23 or by endless bands rotating about guide wheels carried by a spider 25, the warp threads whose healds are free being deflected to permit entry of the shuttle. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which a shedding wheel 35 is mounted within the warps and the healds 36 are notched at 38 to engage a square ring 37, selected banks of healds being freed for outward radial movement by a cam plate 39. The Provisional Specification describes also a stop motion comprising weights connected to the healds and adapted to engage mechanical or electrical means on warp breakage.
