Abstract

440,772. Bolt anchor. PLEISTER, H. W., 200, Linden Avenue, Westfield, and KARITZKY, J., Garwood, both in New Jersey, U.S.A. April 24, 1935, No. 12319. [Class 89 (i)] A bolt anchor comprises relatively slidable members one of which is screw threaded, and is formed so that when it is inserted in a hole the circumferential form of the screw member is changed to increase the effective area of contact between the latter and the bolt it has to support. A bolt anchor comprises two members 1, 2, of which the member 1 is provided with an arched top 7, parallel sides 8, and an open bottom 6 with thread 9. Its inner edges 12 are of arcuate wedge form and have wedge recesses 13. The other member 2 is provided with exterior ribs 5 and similar tapering surfaces with upstanding flanges 15 engaging the recesses 13, whereby when the two parts are assembled and driven into a hole 3 in a wall 4, the members 15 engage the slots 13 and distort the screw thread so that it is made to embrace more closely the thread of the bolt 21, and the ribs 5 on the part 2 bite into the hole. In addition the parts have respectively notches 16 and bendable projections 18 which form a temporary lock for the two parts when being driven into position. For the purpose of facilitating the deformation, the member 1 is provided with a longitudinal slot 10. The member 2 has head lugs 24 and longitudinal external ribs 30. When a tongue 19 is provided on member 1 it is adapted to slide between lugs 23 on member 2 which, when the parts are fully expanded, can be bent down to engage and lock the inserted bolt.
