Abstract

440,216. Agricultural tractors. COLEBY, F., Colwyn Bungalow, Swanley Junction, Kent. June 27, 1934, Nos. 18915 /34 and 17374/35. [Classes 79 (i), 79 (ii), and 79 (v)] A motor cultivator provided with steering handles 18 is rendered self-centring and maintained in a straight path by means of a roller 6, Fig. 3, carried by the main frame 1 and engaging a V-shaped or cam groove 7 on the implement or towing frame 8, so that the weight of the main frame tends to keep the roller at the bottom of the groove 7 and to correct any deviation from a straight course. The steering handles 18 are adjustable about vertical and horizontal axes 20, 20<1>, and are locked in any desired angular position by means of a quadrant 21 for vertical adjustment and a quadrant 24 for horizontal adjustment, these quadrants being engaged by pawls 22, 25 separately controlled from the steering handles by rods 23. The engine 4, clutch 3, and gearbox 2 are mounted on the main frame 1 and the road wheels 18<a> are driven through worm gearing 15 and ratchet or dog clutches 14 which can be separately disconnected for steering. These clutches are engaged by springs 26 and are disengaged by forks 12 fixed on shafts 12<a> having arm 11, Fig. 5, controlled by levers 10 operated by rods from the steering handles. The worm wheel 15 is fixed on a shaft 16 on which the driven clutch sleeves 14<a> are loosely mounted, the road wheels 18<a> being secured either to flanges 17 on the clutch sleeves or to extension shafts bolted to the flanges 17.
