[Class 140] A covering resembling linoleum for floors, rollers, &c., is made by applying to a base such as perforated cardboard a cold, dry mixture of filling and oxidizable binding materials and then heating to oxidize the binding-materials. The covering may be compressed after oxidization by a heated roller and then dried. One or more layers may be applied, and colouring matter may be added to the mixture for applying to the upper surface of the covering. The binding-materials may be oils obtained from poppy seed or flax seed, suitable filling materials being powdered straw, paper, wood, cork, bark, moss, ash, or slag. In some cases, filling material containing binding-material is employed, such as poppy seed, flax seed, pine cones and needles, dried spurge, and certain kinds of moss. In some cases, the base is coated on one side only, the other side being waterproofed with synthetic resin, varnish, &c.
