Abstract

Anthraquinone dyes are obtained by causing anthraquinones, negatively substituted, to react with aminophenylethyl alcohols, aminonaphthyl ethyl alcohols or their nuclear substitution products, or by causing aminoanthraquinones to react with halogen-substituted phenylethyl alcohols or naphthylethyl alcohols or their nuclear substitution products. The leuco anthraquinone compounds may be used. The products are suitable for dyeing cellulose esters and ethers. According to examples: (1) 1-chloranthraquinone is condensed with p-amino-phenylethylalcohol, and gives a rose-red dye for acetate-silk; 1 : 5-dichlor-, 1-amino-4-chlor-, 1 - amino - 4 - bromo - 2 - sulpho- and 1 : 4-diamino - 2 : 3 - dichloranthraquinones give in a similar manner bluish-red, blue-violet, and blue dyes, and leuco-quinizarin a blue green dye, respectively; (2) 1-aminoanthraquinone is condensed with p-chlorphenylethylalcohol to give a similar product to the first in example (1); (3) leucoquinizarin is condensed with 2 : 4-diaminophenylethyl alcohol e to give a green dye for acetate silk.
