Abstract

326,949. Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd., Lodge, F., and Tatum, W. W. Feb. 8, 1929. Anthraquinone dyes.-New dyes for acetate silk and for wool are prepared by treating 1 : 4- diamino- and 1-amino-4-arylaminoanthraquinone 2-sulphonic acids with polyhydric aliphatic alcohols in presence of alkali. Sulphurous acid is split off and the compounds are probably hydroxyethers. In examples, (1) sodium 1 : 4-diaminoanthraquinone-2 : 3-disulphonic acid, obtained by chlorinating 1: 4-diaminoanthraquinone to the 2 : 3-dichloro-compound and heating with phenol and sodium sulphite solution, is condensed with glycerol in presence of caustic soda to give a dyestuff, dyeing acetate silk bright bluish reds; (2) sodium 1 - amino - 4 - anilinoanthraquinone-2-sulphonic acid is condensed with glycerol to give a violet wool dye; (3) 1-amino-4-anilinoanthraquinone-2-sulphonic acid is condensed with ethylene glycol to give a dye similar to (2); (4) 1 - amino-4-anilinoanthraquinone-2-sulphonic acid is condensed with triethanolamine to give a dyestuff, dyeing acetate silk reddish blue.
