Abstract
439,677. Watches. MEYER & STUDELI SOC. ANON., Weissensteinstrasse, Soleure, Switzerland. May 7, 1934, No. 13751. Convention date, May 8, 1933. [Class 139] In a self-winding wrist watch wherein the mainspring is coupled to an oscillatory weight pivotally mounted near the periphery of the substantially rectangular movement, the weight is shaped like a shallow cup substantially enclosing the movement. The movement 2 is carried by a movement plate 1, Figs. 1, 2, to which the oscillating weight 5 comprising a bottom plate 19 and side walls 191 surrounding the movement is pivoted at 4. A bridge 7 secured to the movement block 2 is located in an aperture 6 in the plate 19, and houses a ratchet wheel 8 which drives the mainspring ratchet 12 through gearing 10, 9, 11, 12. Pivoted coaxially with the ratchet wheel 8 is a lever 13 which carries a spring pressed driving pawl 14 and is oscillated by the weight to wind the mainspring through a blade spring 16 fixed at one end to the plate 19 and at its other end engaging between the arms of a fork 15 rigid with the lever. A stop pawl 18 prevents backward rotation of the ratchet wheel 8 and the blade spring 16 is adapted to yield against the reaction of the mainspring when the latter is fully wound to prevent overwinding. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes other embodiments. In one the moving weight 24, Fig. 3 (Cancelled), is pivoted at 23 to the plate 20 carrying the movement 21, and the driving pawl 28, pivotally mounted on the weight 24, rotates a ratchet wheel 29 geared to the mainspring ratchet 33. In a modification of this embodiment the driving pawl 35, Fig. 5 (Cancelled), is mounted on a slide 36 engaging in a slot 37 in the moving weight and a spring 38 normally maintains the slide at the upper end of the slot. When the mainspring is fully wound however, the spring 38 yields and the slide oscillates in the slot 37. In another embodiment, the driving pawl 41, Fig. 6 (Cancelled), is mounted on a lever 39 rotatably mounted coaxially with the ratchet wheel 29, the lever having a fork 42 engaging a pin 51 on the moving weight 24. The pin 51 may be rigid or it may be adapted to yield to prevent overwinding. In Fig. 7 (Cancelled), the driving pawl 45 is mounted on a lever 43 pivoted at 44 to the movement 21, and similarly rocked by a pin 51. In a further embodiment the pivotal lever carries two driving pawls to advance the ratchet in both directions of movement of the oscillating weight. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
