Abstract

A core of chewing-gum is enclosed in a hard shell of compressed, amorphous, powdered sugar, the keeping qualities of the gum being thereby improved. The coating sugar may consist, e.g. of 92 per cent by weight of confectioners' sugar of some pulverized grade and 8 per cent of corn syrup, glucose or any one of a considerable number of vegetable syrups used in the confectionery trade. A very small quantity, e.g. one tenth of one per cent, of gelatin and flavouring materials may be added. These constituents, when worked up together, yield a dry, powdered, amorphous product. The dies which compress the shell around the chewing-gum core may impress the coating with a Trade Mark, symbol, or the like.
