Abstract

439,444. Toys; frictional electric machines. WEIL, H. H., 1, Bryggaregatan, Stockholm. Nov. 12, 1934, No. 32597. Convention date, Nov. 11, 1933. [Class 132 (iii)] [See also Group XXXV] Toy apparatus comprises toy aeroplanes manoeuvred in the air by means of charged rods. As shown in Fig. 1, a nonconducting rod 3 of ebonite or hard rubber is provided with a metal covering or end piece 2 on which is placed the aeroplane 1 of hammered aluminium foil. The rod 3 is rubbed with a cat's skin and the end piece 2 becomes electrified to electrify also the aeroplane 1 which is repelled to rise in the air to take up a position of equilibrium or be manoeuvred by one or more rods 3. The aeroplane may be folded along its axis, preferably at the front end only. The several parts may bear advertising matter or pictures. A modified construction of rod is shown in Fig. 2 in which an ebonite tube 10 is provided at one end with a metal block 11 having a plane upper surface and at the other end with holding means. A plunger 12 of insulating material is positioned within the tube 10 and has on its underside a metal covering 14 which by means of a lug 15 is in conductive connection with a metal piece 16. The metal block 11 is charged by removing the plunger 12, rubbing it with cat's skin and inserting it in the tube 10 so that the metal piece 16 comes into contact with the metal block 11, which latter can be further charged by moving the plunger 12 backwards and forwards out of and into contact with the metal block 11.
