Abstract

438,705. Cotters. PUTTICK, P. C., 29, Lodge Avenue, East Cosham, Portsmouth. June 26, 1935, No. 18234. [Class 89 (ii)] Cotters or split pins are provided with a bowed portion 1 immediately beneath the head 2. This construction causes the shanks to spring apart and thus facilitate bending when the bowed portion engages with the walls of the hole in the bolt and allows any unnecessary length of shank to be cut off. In the case of castellated nuts, the head of the pin is twisted into the plane of the split to enable the head to sit snugly in the slot in the castellated head.
