[Class 138 (i)] A bottle-washing machine comprises a rotary brush adapted to clean the interior of a bottle placed thereover, and two laterally-disposed external brushes each pivoted on a stud fixed to an end plate and connected by a link to a vertically-movable slide plate, a tension spring connecting the pivoted brush holders whereby pressure is exerted by the brushes against the sides of the bottle. In the construction shown, a brush A, on which the bottle to be cleaned is placed, is carried by a spindle A<1> adapted to be connected to a driving shaft. The spindle projects through an aperture on a plate B which can be fitted to a tank or bench. Rods C<1> secured to the plate carry detachable holders c, c<1> on the ends of which are mounted brushes C shaped and adapted to clean the exterior of the bottle. Each of the holders c is connected to a link c<3> pivotally mounted on a stud bl carried by a vertically-slidable plate D. The holders c are connected together by a spring C<2> which acts to press the brushes C towards the bottle. Each of the holders c<1> carries a curved stationary brush F mounted so that it can be reversed when worn. The brush F acts to brush and guide the bottle when being placed over the brush A. The plate D has a vertical slot e through which a rod E projects, the rod being clamped in position by a wing nut e<1>. The rod carries the holder g of a brush G adapted to engage the upper outer surface of the bottle. The base of the bottle is adapted to be cleaned by brushes H<1>, H<2> on a holder slidably mounted on a rod H, which projects from the plate B and passes through a slot g<1> in the holder g. The holder h is pressed against a collar h<1> by a spring h<2> which keeps the brushes 4<1>, 4<2> in fixed position with respect to the base of the bottle.
