Abstract

437,969. Security paper. RUSSELL, D., Rothes, Markinch, Fifeshire. May 12, 1934, No. 14401. [Class 96] Finely divided reactive metal, metal oxide, or both is or are distributed throughout, or in the upper part of safety paper which may also contain other security chemicals. As metals may be used up to 5 per cent of iron, manganese, copper, silver, zinc, mercury, tin, lead, antimony, bismuth, chromium, cobalt, nickel, cadmium, or iron-manganese alloys. The oxides may be of iron, copper, or nickel ; and the other security chemicals, which may be applied to the paper by spraying &c. may be ferrocyanides of manganese, lead, or zinc, zinc sulphide, lithopone or ultramarine, lead carbonate, &c. The metals, metal oxides &c. may be added to pulp in the beating-engine or immediately prior to deposition on the wirecloth of a paper-making machine. The pH value during and after such addition should be not less than 6À7, or with rosin sizing, not above 7À0. In an example, finely powdered iron is violently agitated with water, and added to pulp flowing on to the wire-cloth, size, sodium ferrocyanide, and manganese sulphate being added subsequently, manganese ferrocyanide being precipitated.
