Abstract

437,134. Railway &c. wagons. ALLEN & SONS (TIPTON), Ltd., W. G., and TOLHURST, W. T., Princes End, Tipton, Staffordshire. June 21, 1934, No. 18319. [Class 103 (iv)] In a pit-tub or like wagon having a body which is built up by interengaging the bentover or hook-shaped edges of the base 1, sides 2 and end 3, the use of separate cleats or clamps at the corners for securing purposes is avoided and greater rigidity aimed at by providing on the lower corners of the side plates rigid plates or straps 12 which are welded or otherwise made integral with the side plates and are adapted to be drawn down into firm contact with the base by bolts or like clamping means. The base 1 is formed with upstanding and preferably corrugated end flanges 9 and the rounded corners of the side plates 2 are cut away at the lower parts to accommodate the straps 12 and also at 17 to receive the vertical edges of the flanges 9. In this way the hooked edges of the end plates 3 engage both the flanges 9 and the hooked edges 7 of the side plates. Bolts or like clamping means are passed through holes 13, 14 in the straps 12 and base 1, while additional holes 18 for bolts or rivets are formed in the ends 3 and flanges 9.
