[Classes 120 (iii) and 142 (iv)] A loop yarn comprising twisted carrier threads has one or more binding threads applied against the loops which are wound round one or more core threads, the whole being twisted together; the loops may be uncut, or cut, producing a chenille yarn. The loops may consist of a single or a number of threads. Two or more loop or chenille yarns may be twisted together, or may form the constituents of further similar loop or chenille yarns. Apparatus for producing the twisted loop yarn comprises a hollow rotatable conical member through which the core is fed, a wedge rotatable with the core and on which the loops are formed, and means for applying binding threads against the loops, the whole then being twisted. The core thread 1, Fig. 1, is drawn from the supply 4. The loop forming threads 31, 32 are drawn from bobbins 14, 15 and wound round the adjustable wedge member 13 to form loops which slide off the narrow end of the wedge. The bobbins 14, 15 are mounted on a plate 19 which is rotated about the central axis by gearing 20-23 and pulley 18. The thread 2 from the bobbin 6 is applied to and bound round the yarn, the bobbin 6 being mounted in a frame 11 which is rotated by the pulley 34. The finished loop yarn is drawn off by the rollers 26, 27 faced with carding and adjustable for distance apart. An alternative form of apparatus, Fig. 12, comprises toothed wheels 41, 42 which crimp the loop thread 39 ; the loops are fed on a conveyer band 43 together with the core thread 35, and are twisted with a binding thread 36 at the nip 49, 45 by rotation of the yarn as it is drawn off. Apparatus for producing the chenille yarn comprises a downwardly inclined feed trough 60, Fig. 4, down which the chenille elements. 59 are fed, a grooved conveying wheel 61 which feeds the chenille elements between the core and binding threads 52, 53 ; the draw-off rollers 57, 58 are rotatable about the axis of the yarn to twist the latter.
