435,917. Flanging tubes. CLEVELAND, F. J., 29, Southampton Buildings, Chancery Lane, London.-(Akt.-Ges. der Eisenund Stahlwerke vorm. G. Fischer; 105, M³hlenthalstrasse, Schaffhausen, Switzerland) March 18, 1935, No. 8389. [Classes 83 (iii) and 83 (iv)] Cutters.-In an apparatus for flanging tubes, comprising an exchangeable rotary tool having an axially directed extension engaging the bore of the tube, the exchangeable tool is of flat form longitudinally. A flanging tool 3, Fig. 1, is secured on a rotatable head 1 by a bolt 4 passing through a slot 5, Fig. 3, therein, and comprises a recess 10 shaped to form a flange 8 with a bead 11, surfaces 14, 19 bearing against the front face of the holder A for the tube 9, the surface 19 being cut away at 18 to clear the flange 8. A guide member 16 engages the inner surface of the tube. Surfaces 13, 14 on the tool are formed as cutting edges to remove burrs. One or more cutting wheels 24, Fig. 7, may be carried on the tool for forming grooves in the flange. In a further modification a rib 29, Fig. 10, is provided adjacent the recess in the tool which forms the flange 26, this rib being inclined to remove burrs. A gap 30 is formed between the tool and the work and work carrier on the opposide side of the tool.
