Abstract

435,367. Hydraulic apparatus. VENESTA, Ltd., and LOVE, A., Vintry House, Queen Street Place, London. April 5, 1935, No. 10593. [Class 69 (ii)] [See also Groups II and XXII] In a mill in which hydraulic pressure is applied to the rolls by means of a pump, the pressure being controlled by the pressure drop of the liquid forced through an orifice, two separately controllable hydraulic systems are provided, one acting at each end of the roller train, whereby the pressure at each end can be separately adjusted. As shown, pumps f driven by a motor g through gearing h supply liquid through pipes to hydraulic cylinders c actuating the bearings of a roller b. A branch pipe k from each pipe j returns the liquid through conical valves m to the suction side of the pumps f, the valves being regulated simultaneously or separately to control the pressure in the hydraulic cylinders. The valve m may consist of an external movable piece adapted to obtrude the jet. Spring loaded relief valves q control the pressure in the pipe line, and a stop valve o is provided to release the pressure in both cylinders c. The pumps may have their outputs controlled together or independently and may be driven by separate motors.
