[Class 97 (i)] Apparatus capable of use with films of different widths and image heights comprises, in combination, a claw carrier having a variable working stroke, a fixed gate member adapted for films of various widths, and a number of interchangeable movable gate members each adapted for a particular type of film. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the claw carrier 1 has a pair of marginal claws 5, 6 and a pair of shorter central claws 7, 8. Openings 2, 3 in the carrier embrace cams 9, 10 ; the cam 10 may be held stationary so that the claw movement is effected solely by the cam 9, and is suitable for a 16 mm. film, or both cams may be rotated at the same speed to produce a claw movement suitable for an 8 mm. film. The driving means for the cams may comprise equal meshed wheels 13, 14, the wheel 14 being loose on the cam shaft 15. The shaft 15 may carry a member 16 which is slidable on it but rotatable with it, and is provided with bosses 17, 18 to engage respectively in a hole 19 in a fixed member to hold the cam 10 stationary, or in a hole 20 in the wheel 14 to rotate the cam. A modification of the driving means is described comprising a spring-pressed plate slidable on the shaft 15. The continuous-feed sprocket may be driven through a two-speed gear comprising a sliding member similar to the member 16, and the two members may be moved simultaneously by levers operable by a single control external to the apparatus. The fixed gate member, Figs. 3, 4 and 5, may comprise a block 22, provided with shoulders 25, 31, a long exposure aperture 29, and claw apertures 26, 33. As shown in Fig. 3, a spring-pressed movable gate member 23 presses a 16 mm. film 24 on to the shoulders 25 ; recesses 27 in the member 23 receive the claws 5, 6 and the shorter claws 7, 8 do not reach the film. As shown in Fig. 4, a movable member 30 presses a 9À5 mm. film on to the shoulders 31; the claws 5, 6 move inoperatively in recesses 34 in the member 30, and the claws 7, 8 engage the central perforations in the film to feed it. As shown in Fig. 5, the movable member 36 has a non- central exposure aperture 41 for an 8 mm. film 37 fed by the claw 6, and a shoulder 38 for guiding one edge of the film ; blade springs secured to the member at one side of the aperture have face ends engaging the film margin on the other side of the aperture to retain it in place ; the free extremities of the springs project outwardly from the gate. The movable members have framing apertures and are movable vertically for adjustment.
