Abstract
Rubber mixtures are made by employing as distributing agent a non-metallic non-acid product recovered or derived from an oxidation product of a non-aromatic hydrocarbon material of high molecular weight, e.g. paraffin wax. The oxidation products, e.g. of paraffin wax, consist of acid constituents, non-acid constituents such as aldehydes, ketones, alcohols and esters, and unchanged initial material. The non-acid constituents may be recovered by saponifying the crude oxidation products with alkalies or alkaline earths, extracting the soap solutions with solvents, e.g. benzene, and, evaporating the solvent. Suitable non-acid products may also be obtained from the crude oxidation products of paraffin hydrocarbons by subjecting them to an energetic catalytic hydrogenation with hydrogen at elevated temperature and pressure so that the carboxylic acids, carboxylic acid esters and lactones are converted into the corresponding aldehydes or alcohols, or by esterification with alcohols e.g. methyl, ethyl, normal propyl, isopropyl or butyl alcohols. In an example for use in a rubber mix, a non-acid product is obtained by treating paraffin wax with air at 170 DEG C., for five hours, saponifying with alkali, extracting the soap solution with benzine and evaporating the benzine extract.ALSO:Rubber mixtures are made by employing as distributing agent a non-metallic non-acid product recovered or derived from an oxidation product of a non-aromatic hydrocarbon material of high molecular weight, e.g. paraffin wax. In an example, a rubber mix comprising 100 parts of cr<\>zepe rubber, 40 of gas carbon, 5 of zinc oxide, 3 of sulphur 1,5 of phenyl guanidine and 1 of a condensation product from alphanaphthylamine and aldol, is mixed on the rollers with 4 parts of a non-acid product obtained by treating paraffin wax with air at 170 DEG C. for five hours, saponifying with alkali, extracting the soap solution obtained with benzine and evaporating the benzine extract.
