Abstract

433,685. Electric clocks. VUILLE, L. SANDOZ-, La Rochette, Auvernier, NeuchÔtel, Switzerland. Nov. 4, 1933, No. 30724. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, May 9, 1934]. [Class 139] The invention relates to a clock wherein a spring 12, periodically energized by an electromagnet 3, maintains the balance 2 and drives the hands. The spiral spring 12 is mounted about the pivot of and biasses a lever 11. In the position shown, the lever 11 is held stationary by a stop 16, Fig. 2, engaging the end 12b thereof. The stop 16 is fixed to a plate 14 screwed to the free end of a pivoted spring 13 normally held against a fixed stop 15. The armature 4 of the magnet 3, pivoted at 5, has one end 4 engaged by a fork 11 of member 11. A hook 6 fixed to the end 4 advances the hands (not shown) through a ratchet wheel 19 also engaged by a stop pawl 21. Also secured to the armature is a screw 7, nuts 8, on which serve to adjust the position of a pivotal contact member 9. During clockwise movement of the balance 2 a projection 17 thereon wipes idly past the end of spring 13 and a projection 18 thereon passes the end 12 of lever 11. During anticlockwise movement the projection 17 moves the spring 13 from the stop 15. The lever 11 is released by this movement and rocks clockwise under the action of spring 12. During this movement of member 11 the end 12 imparts an impulse to the balance through projection 18 and the fork 11 rocks the armature 4 to close contacts 10 to energize the magnet 3 which attracts the armature to reset the lever 11 to the position shown and open the contacts 10. In a modification, Fig. 3, the spring 13 is replaced by springs 13, 13b connected by a rigid plate 141 and coacting with a projection 18 on the balance 2. An arm on the plate 14<1> normally locks the rocking member 11<1> biassed by the spring 121 and coacting with a projection 17 on the balance. The operation is as described above.
