[Class 100 (iv)] Carbon-sheet arrangements; web-guiding arrangements.- A duplicating-attachment for typewriters and like machines comprises a frame carrying an aligning-device for the superposed sheets, a feed-roller, and a carrier for carbon sheets, and is so arranged that the initially aligned sheets are again aligned after passing the roller and platen. The frame comprises anglemembers 1, 3, Figs. 3 and 10, connected by braces 5 and supported on the typewriter frame rods by means of notches 10, 12 in a bracket 8 secured to the frame members, and a notched latch 13. Mounted on the frame are spindles 18, 20 carrying sprocketwheels 19, 21, round which pass chains 22 on which are mounted a carbon-carrier plate 27 and an aligning- device plate 42. A paperguide roller 23 with side guide-discs 23<a> is mounted on the spindle 20 and a coiled spring 26 is connected between the spindle and a housing 24. The guidediscs 23a may be omitted and adjustable pins mounted on a crossbar may be substituted. The plate 27 is mounted on the chains by means of bolts or is provided with brackets engaging the chains and a springy arm provided with lugs to hold it in position. Guide-plates 29, Fig. 11, are bolted in a spaced relation to the plate and engage behind the side member 1, or guide-lugs may be punched out from the plate itself. Pins 32 provided with notches 38 are mounted on the plate and on them are mounted carbon-carriers 33 which are provided with reinforcing-members 34 and are held in place by a spring bar 36 engaging in the notches 38. Alternatively to the plurality of notches 38, a collar 35 may take up the black between the carbon-carriers 33 and strip 36. The plate 42 is similarly mounted on the chains and carries two guide-rods 44, 46 for the paper webs 39 and pivoted levers 49 between which stretches an angle-bar 53. Register pins 54 on the bar 53 engage in holes in the paper webs and the bar is drawn towards the webs by springs 58. Alternatively the bar may be provided with fingers to engage the cross-folds in the web. The plate 42 and aligning-assembly are guided by members 57 engaging behind the side members 1 or behind rails bolted to the cross-members 3. The paper webs are drawn up from a fan-folded pile behind the typewriter, pass through the aligning-device 42, over the roller 23 and between carbon sheets attached to the carriers 33, and with the sheets pass round the platen 17a. They are linespaced in the ordinary way until the sheet is finished and then the pressure rollers 17<6> are released. The webs and carbon sheets are retracted together by the action of the spring 26 and the weight of the aligning- device until they reach the position of Fig. 3, where the carbon sheets are free of the pressure rollers 17b. The bar 53 is then pressed back, releasing the webs from the pins 54, and the webs are fed forward alone by the platen until the next crease on the webs coincides with a pointer on the frame. The bar 63 is then released so that the pins 54 re-engage the webs and, after the finished sheets have been torn off the webs and carbons are fed forward to writing position.
