[Class 27] In a coin-freed change-giving or other like vending-machine particularly for use with prepayment meters, the change-holding magazine being filled with pennies used for actuating the meter, the pennies piled in a magazine a, Fig. 1, are delivered by successive operations of a manually-operable slide c having an aperture in which the bottom penny of the pile rests. The slide c is locked by a lever until a shilling is inserted, whereupon the lever is lifted, when the slide is pulled out, and held by a catch o controlled by a spring s. The slide is then reciprocated twelve times to deliver twelve pennies and at each reciprocation a pawl m on the slide turns a ratchet wheel n through one step, so that, when the twelfth penny is delivered, a pin g on the wheel n moves aside the catch o allowing the lever j again to lock the slide. Specification 405,454 is referred to. Coin action, mechanical-connection.-A shilling inserted through a shoot h drops to a pocket i on the slide. Its projecting edge engages a pin k on the lever j to lift this lever and allow the catch o to engage a second pin p. Coin-slit closing-devices.-The lever j actuates a shutter 1 to close the coin-slit while the lever is in its raised position. A second shutter 4 is connected by a spindle 3 to a spring-controlled feeler 2 pivoted in a side aperture in the magazine a. If there are not enough pennies in the magazine, the feeler 2 can move into it and the shutter 4 is thereby moved to close the coin-slit.
