Abstract
431,881. Pianofortes. KNIGHT, A. E., 40, Amhurst Park, Stoke Newington, London. Feb. 14, 1934, No. 4886. [Class 88 (ii)] In a doubly overstrung grand pianoforte the two sets of hitch-pins 6, 7 for the outer ends of the two sets of bass strings 3, 4 overlap, pins 6 being stepped to a higher level on the frame. The two sets of bass strings 3, 4 co-operate at different levels with a duplicate soundboard bridge 8, 9, and pass under a capo d'astro bar 16, through a slot in the frame, and over a flange 14 to the tuning-pins. The strings 4 may pass under the bridge 9. The capo d'astro may be formed as a curved ridge on the under side of the bar 16 which is integral with the frame. The wrest-plank may be in sections and is held between flanges on the underside of the frame. The soundboard may be held by T-shaped projections 21 provided on the frame or on the bar 16.
